The Kwong Cheu Club was formed and registered as an Incorporated Society on 11th April 1923 by a group of Chinese desirous of forming a club for the social and well being of relatives and friends from their district in Ngai Sai Canton, China.
Chinese immigrants were arriving and were finding social prejudices and language barriers in New Zealand hence the need for them to organise their own reliance and protection within themselves.

Today the Club gathers regularly throughout the year activities have centered on family gatherings with regular dinner meetings to encourage social intermixing and preserve Chinese culture. All based on good family values as our founders intended.
